Joshua's vision and legacy lives on.

“Heaven. Costa Rica is simply Heaven on earth.”

Those were the words of Joshua Keith, a Wilmington College Senior in 2014, who traveled to Monteverde, Costa Rica for an educational trip to learn the methods and importance of sustainable agriculture. He spent 11 days working in the fields, serving the community, and learning from the farmers who settled the region just a half century ago.

Joshua indicated to his professors that, through this experience, he was able to really understand the importance of his agriculture-centered coursework. The methods utilized by the various farmers in Costa Rica brought it all together for Joshua. His dream was to return to Costa Rica in the future to work with the same farmers with which he studied and learned. Joshua wanted to expand his horizons--to merge the conventional methods of the United States with sustainable and efficient methods of the tropical south. He felt this is where the field of farming should focus, both in the use of sustainable and efficient energy and in the growth of food for consumption.

Tragically, Joshua lost his life in a boating accident on August 31, 2014. Through his scholarship fund with Wilmington College, his family and friends would like to see his dream come true by way of his fellow students traveling to and being inspired by the farmers of Costa Rica.
